Thousands of fans have been introduced to the stars of DreamWorks' upcoming animated films at the 2003 Comic-Con International, being held from July 17 - 20 in San Diego, California.

The DreamWorks booth features art from the animated films Shrek 2 and Sharkslayer. Also represented is the new animated comedy series Father of the Pride, being produced by DreamWorks for NBC's 2004-2005 slate. In addition to the art showcasing the cast of characters from each of the projects, attendees have the opportunity to view conceptual behind-the-scenes art of the sets and character development.

Opening in Summer 2004, Shrek 2 continues the adventures of the loveable green ogre, his bride Princess Fiona, and his trusty but talkative friend Donkey. The film reunites the cast from Shrek, including Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz, while introducing a new band of characters voiced by Antonio Banderas, Julie Andrews, John Cleese, Rupert Everett, and Jennifer Saunders.

Sharkslayer is an undersea comedy about a little fish who gets into hot water when he pretends to be something he's not -- a great sharkslayer. The film features an all-star cast, including Will Smith, Robert De Niro, Renee Zellweger, Angelina Jolie, Jack Black, Martin Scorsese, Peter Falk, Michael Imperioli, Vincent Pastore, Kevin Pollak, Doug E. Doug and Ziggy Marley. Sharkslayer is the first CG film to be produced out of DreamWorks' new state-of-the-art pipeline in Glendale, CA.

Father of the Pride, the first completely computer-animated series for primetime television, focuses on the magical world of Las Vegas' famed Siegfried and Roy -- seen through the eyes of their extraordinary white lions and other animals. The series stars the voices of John Goodman, Orlando Jones, Cheryl Hines and Carl Reiner. It will debut on NBC in the fall of 2004.

"Matrix" star Monica Bellucci has signed to play the evil queen in Terry Gilliam's Brothers Grimm, now shooting in Prague.

A Dimension Films-MGM co-production, Brothers Grimm is the story of two traveling con artists who perform bogus exorcisms and pretend to protect people from enchanted creatures until they encounter a real magical curse in a haunted forest.

Bellucci will portray the forest's ruler, a woman who has found eternal life but not eternal beauty. She turns to the forest in order to procure the young virgins whose blood she needs to stay lovely.

The film stars Matt Damon, Heath Ledger and Jonathan Pryce. Written by Gilliam, Tony Grisoni and Ehren Kruger, production is expected to continue through mid-November.

Gruffudd, best known for playing the title role in the TV series "Horatio Hornblower," will star alongside Clive Owen, who plays King Arthur, and Keira Knightley ("Bend it Like Beckham"), who plays Guinevere. Stephan Dillane also stars. Antoine Fuqua is directing and Jerry Bruckheimer is producing.

Scripted by David Franzoni and John Lee Hancock, "Arthur" eliminates the fantasy from the well-known tale and instead concentrates on the history and politics in the reign of the king after the Roman empire collapsed and power skirmishes broke out in 450 A.D.

The Coming Soon! Box Office Report has been updated with the studio estimates for this weekend. Be sure to stay tuned there for the final figures on Monday afternoon.

New Line's remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, starring Jessica Biel and R. Lee Ermey, dominated the box office earning an estimated $29.1 million from 3,016 theaters for a strong average of $9,648. The Michael Bay-produced movie carried a budget of only $9.5 million. If the studio estimate holds up when final figures are released, the horror film will have the second-best opening of October ever, surpassing Meet the Parents, which made $28.6 million in 2000 and only trailing Red Dragon, which pulled in $36.5 million in 2002.

Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Vol. 1 held up well in its second weekend for second place. The Uma Thurman-starrer dropped 43.4% and pulled in $12.5 million to push its total to $43.3 million. Coming in close in third was Fox's newcomer Runaway Jury with $12.1 million. The drama debuted in 2,815 locations and averaged $4,298.

Fourth place belonged to Jack Black's School of Rock, which made $11.3 million in its third weekend for an impressive total of $55.2 million.

Clint Eastwood's Mystic River expanded wide into 1,467 theaters and rounded out the top five with $10.4 million. The Warner Bros. feature has collected $13.4 million in two weeks.

Cate Blanchett's Veronica Guerin, in which she plays a real-life Irish journalist slain during an investigation of Dublin druglords, bombed with $603,000 in 472 theaters, averaging just $1,278.

In limited release, Sylvia, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, opened strongly with $56,132 in three theaters in New York City and Los Angeles, averaging $18,711.

Pieces of April, a Sundance Film Festival favorite that stars Katie Holmes and Patricia Clarkson, debuted with $48,000 in six New York City and Los Angeles theaters for an $8,000 average.

This past week, Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl inched past $300 million, the year's second movie to cross that mark, after Disney-Pixar's Finding Nemo. It was the first time one studio had two movies topping $300 million domestically in a single year.

On a September afternoon in the heart of the picturesque Alps, two Latvian tourists, 22-yr old Philippe Halsman, a soft-spoken, compassionate engineering student and his overbearing father Morduch undertook a hiking tour. Though he loved his father deeply, the seething dynamic between them never allowed this affection to surface. By the end of the day, Morduch Halsman, a stubborn, aggressive, well-to-do dentist, determined to "make a man" of his son by the brute force of physical labor, was dead. Philippe maintained that his father had fallen and was still alive when he ran for help, but when he returned, his father's body lay face down, his head split open with an ax, his blood and belongings strewn about the area. With vague circumstantial evidence pointing to Philippe, he was immediately arrested and charged with patricide. No one wanted to defend an outsider, let alone a Jew, and the local community hoped for a speedy trial that would wash their hands of the monstrous act. Deliberately uninformed of his rights, Philippe was left in the dark of his cold cell until his mother and sister, alerted to the crisis, managed to procure a lawyer from the Jewish quarter in Vienna. With no time to prepare his case, Philippe and his passionate lawyer were left scrambling as the trial began. While witnesses steered their testimony towards a guilty verdict, and while the courtroom saw such gruesome evidence as Morduch's head, severed from his body by local autopsists, Philippe found himself so alienated he could not even bring himself to help his own cause. Enraged that the trial was conducted with such hostility towards him, he sat brooding with anger, given to frequent outbursts of frustration. In a mere four days, the highly-charged, emotional trial came to a close. Though no evidence or any clear motive had been established, the deliberation was over as soon as it began. Philippe Halsman was convicted of patricide and sentenced to ten years in prison thus becoming the first Jewish victim of the incipient anti-Semitism of National Socialism. Not until well-known international figures such as Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud and Thomas Mann rallied to his cause, demanding a fair trial, was Philippe freed. Under the condition that he never return to Austria, he made his way out of the country harboring the darkest of wounds. Not only was he never allowed to properly grieve his father's death, but he would forever be haunted by visions of his falling father, of the severed head, and the black hole of his own memory, filled with doubt, guilt and grief. Though he never spoke publicly about that fateful summer, its influence was sharply felt in the photography that would soon make Philippe famous. Commissioned by the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Brando, Picasso, Nixon and the Kennedys, Halsman turned formal fashion shots into serious investigations of character. Engaging his subjects in disarming chatter, he would often ask them to jump, which he believed would free them of their postures and defenses. "When you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears." From surrealist flourishes such as headless bodies or bodiless heads, to "jumpology", which would become his trademark, Philippe pursued his quest to uncover the hidden truths behind the masks of his subjects. But only in private would he turn this investigation upon himself. It seems that Philippe was able to witness his father's true character in that horrible moment so many years ago, and perhaps, in doing so, was able to love him in absolute. But as to the question of murder, obscured by the trauma of the moment and the whirlwind of prejudice in its aftermath, Philippe himself was rendered impotent to answer.

Steven Eckholdt Checks Into The West Wing

Executive producer Frank Marshall tells Sci Fi Wire that Frank Darabont is still writing the script for Indiana Jones 4. The filmmakers are making sure that the sequel lives up to the franchise.

"It's basically the same kind of story that we had in the first three movies," he said. "It's up to us to maintain the integrity of the project. That's why it's taking a long time on the script. We want the story to be good enough."

Producer Kathleen Kennedy also said that she expects Harrison Ford, director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas to defer their usual salaries in lieu of back-end deals to ensure a reasonable budget.

Haley Joel Osment plays introverted 14 year-old Walter in Tim McCanlies' new Secondhand Lions who finds himself spending the summer with two great-uncles (Michael Caine and Robert Duvall). He says working with the two veteran actors was quite something.

"There's so much to learn from those guys. Everyday on the set was a learning experience, whether they were trying to teach me anything or not, because they were wise enough not to feel the need to tell you anything. It was pretty much they just did what they did on the set, you know, and you watched and learned from how professional they were."

The casting of Caine and Duvall wasn't the only thing that attracted Osment to the project. "The script was very appealing, I mean it just really came alive on the page. It had really strong deep characters on it. Even before we found out that Michael and Robert were attached, we just saw that the script just had so much depth to it. Tim had 10 years really to pull all his heart and all of the life into the script to where the characters, really, you could see everything to them. Then of course when these two guys signed on there's every reason to do it."

Part of the fun of Walter's dilemma is how much he is going to believe of the uncle's tale in the movie. "Oh yeah, I think everyone, initially, is going to want to buy into that. I like how these sequences themselves are really shown through Walter's eyes because it's really unlocking his imagination for the first time. Before this film starts, he has no convictions, he doesn't believe in anything and he really has this really incredible imagination and the first time it's unlocked is when he meets these two old men and they finally give him something that he's interested in and that he wants to believe in. That's why the sequences are so effective. When I first read the script I really did wanna believe in it, just like Walter does."

Haley also got to work with many animals while shooting, including a lion which his character wrestles with. "I did not get to wrestle with the lion, I really wanted to. They were a little bit hesitant about that, understandably, because it was a dangerous animal. But you know, just the way that the animal interacted with the trainers and everything, it had such an intense training program that when it was on the set, it was pretty much well rehearsed. It knew exactly what it had to do. So when the scene came up where we were supposed to wrestle with the lion, everybody was very scared about it. And I was ready to go jump in that cage with that lion. But I suppose they weren't too comfortable with that."

The dogs were a little less dangerous. "The dogs were great. They actually had photo doubles! So there was actually 10 or 12 dogs running around the set at all times. It was pretty entertaining to have this heard of animals that really added a lot of character to the film. We ended up putting them in a lot more scenes than they were originally allotted because they have such great character and they made such great humorous moments."

Haley's most memorable scene to perform was one with Robert Duvall down at the lake. "That was a really emotionally-charged scene. That's why it was so memorable I guess, because of the level of emotion that we had built up. Through the entire film, Hub [Duvall's character] is communicating with Walter pretty much in one word snippets. And now he's speaking to him in such detail and depth, I think the level of emotion we got in that scene was really genuine. It was exhausting because we had to put so much into that."

There's lots of humor in the film, though the actors didn't think they were being funny. "It's not about jokes that are planned, its about the humor in the characters themselves. It's about laughing at the ridiculousness just of who they are as people and the way they interact with each other, you know there are individual instances that are gags and stuff. But the funniest parts are just the characters of these old men. If this was real life they wouldn't be trying to make the audience laugh. There's no audience there. So it's even funnier when the character is just doing what he sees as normal and it's funny to us."

Production has begun on Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave, a documentary miniseries that will follow the engaged pair as they plan their wedding, which is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles later this year. The show is scheduled to premiere in January.

"MTV has been given an unprecedented look into the personal and professional lives of Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro to reveal the behind-the-scenes process of putting on a wedding that might prove to be the most talked-about event of the year," MTV/VH1 president of entertainment Brian Graden said in a statement.

Although rumors say that Star Wars: Episode III may be the longest film of the prequels, producer Rick McCallum said the exact opposite to The Daily Telegraph.

Despite internet rumours that Episode III will be the longest of the Star Wars films, McCallum insists it will be no longer than any of the other prequels.

"We are hoping it will be the shortest of all of them but it will probably end up at about exactly the same time � two hours and 10 minutes," he says.

With Star Wars: Episode IV so ingrained in fans' minds and many aspects of the film being absorbed into everyday popular culture, Lucas and McCallum are faced with quite a challenge to bridge the gap from the prequels to the original trilogy.

"This is about not really moving from II to III, this is about linking III to IV and tying up all the loose ends," McCallum says.

"So somebody who doesn't understand Star Wars can start with Episode I and follow the whole saga, the whole family all the way through.

"Personally, I think this is the coolest of the lot but I also thought that about Episode I and II."

Johnny Knoxville has been set to join the Rock in "Walking Tall," the MGM remake being directed by Kevin Bray. Knoxville will be paid a career best $5 million, sources said.

A loser of enormous proportions, the incompetent and seemingly hopeless coach is convinced by fellow coach Freddie Wiseman to return to the field for one last shot. Assuring his long suffering wife that he will not ignore his family, Coach moves them to Plainfolk, Texas where he hopes to redeem himself and his reputation. Here he begins yet another attempt to improve his abysmal record - this time as the coach of the football team at Heartland State University. But he is saddled with a team of misfits - most of whom don't know the difference between a line of scrimmage and a line at the cafeteria. Coach is in serious need of some real talent to beef up his line-up and finds his number one recruit on the university's baseball diamond. The ever-so-handsome Lance Truman (Matthew Lawrence) brings with him a distinguished award winning career - albeit for the most dropped balls - as well as determination. Coach convinces Truman to join the team as quarterback, and the young athlete comes on board despite the objection of his father (Nick Searcy). Wearing jersey #1 is Trotter, the bling-wearing, girl magnet wide receiver who can actually catch and run with the ball, as long as his over-sized ego does not get in the way. The biggest bruiser of the team is Buddy Boy, but he turns out to be more warm and cuddly than the mean sonofabitch that Coach longs for. The rest of the team includes the upbeat and handsome, Aseel Tare, who is always ready for action despite an uncanny tendency for injury; tattooed and angry Jorge Juanson who has a chip on his shoulder, and the delusion of being from the barrio; Jizminder, a beautiful, British-Indian soccer player, who takes on the role of kicker and is the only female player on the otherwise all male squad; and lastly, is the runt of the group, Randy, who is always begging for a chance to play despite his minuscule stature, and lack of any discernible football skills...unless you count moxie. Serving as Coach's right hand man is IPod, although he is often misunderstood, the good-hearted, music listening IPod keeps the team smiling. Although the team and townsfolk are leery of the newcomer's approach, the Coach uses his unorthodox methods to whip this group of rag-tags into shape - both on and off the field. While the audience follows their winding road to the playoffs, the film pokes fun at the clich�s and conventions of other sports flicks. And the team does make progress, so much so that they actually make it to the South-Southwest Conference Championship at the 2nd Annual Toilet Bowl. Facing their fiercest opponents yet and yearning to win the big game, The Comebacks face off with the Lone Star State Unbeatables. And as every great sports team has always done, The Comebacks use ingenuity and unorthodox measures in the final showdown where the best team wins.

Exorcist: The Beginning

Last week, Warner Bros. set a February 6, 2004 release date for Exorcist: The Beginning, but already some interesting things are trickling in.

First up, Dark Universe found an article in SFX magazine in which writer Caleb Carr describes the film. They also have up a picture of the poster which is featured in the magazine.

Meanwhile, Latino Review posted a description of the upcoming trailer for the prequel which includes possible spoilers.

Starts with the voice over of Father Damien asking Regan all the questions he asked from the first film, "who am I talking to, how old are you," in which Regan replies "12" and then all of a sudden you see Regan's ugly possessed face on the screen, and it then turns black and you see images of the first film going backwards, you see Father Damien who jumped out the window and fall on the stairs fly backwards up to the window and into Regan's room, and you see Father Merrin go backwards into the taxi in front of Regan's house and [which is shown on the Exorcist poster] quickly the screen turns black. Then the words "GO BACK, GO BACK, GO BACK, GO BACK .....TO THE BEGINNING" appear on the screen. You then see the young boy who is now possessed by the devil, and all sorts of action starts popping up, like the young priest played by Gabriel Mann in a tomb flying in the air dropping his rosary, and it ends with the theme song from the first Exorcist.
